Who is FOPA? Forum of Progressive Artists (FOPA) is a group of artists and allies who are interested in promoting, nurturing and participating in cultural activism. FOPA believes that art is an effective medium to engage people and affect positive social change. It was started in Amherst, Massachusetts to provide a progressive cultural presence among the Indian community. FOPA has organized tours of progressive film makers, produced dance theater pieces, created and performed short plays and dances and participated in theater competitions and festivals. FOPA's current projects include starting a Street Theater group and organizing an annual progressive cultural festival. FOPA does not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, class, sex, national origin or sexual preferences.FOPA Statement Culture is not carved in stone. Culture is a dynamic and organic entity that reflects the realities and concerns of people that it represents and addresses. Tradition should not be shackles around our souls. Tradition is the bells around our ankles, the rhythm of our drums, the notes in our songs and the music of us dancing free. FOPA members are citizens of the community who believe in challenging, upholding, questioning, strengthening and creating tolerant and plural culture and tradition.Contacts (for workshops, performances and other details)
